What are you going to do when you grow up?
My first grade brain processes the question with a maddening sense of adventure, followed by the constructs of logic. The first dream cloud is cloaked in tall mountainous horizons billowing with hot air balloon and cities flourishing with citizens who are singing, dancing and communicating. Then suddenly, in comes the structured world that I barely understand reminding me that this is fluff and I must think of something quick before my name gets called.
Teacher, Nurse, Police Officer, that angry man that sweeps the halls, the lady at the library and every other "job" in my first grade point of view filmstrips across my lids.
"Gaetana, what about you?"
I recently moved from Worcester, Massachusetts to Boston. While throwing away my memories to make room for the new life, I stumbled upon a cover screaming 'read me' in the form of a red apple and geometrically correct school house. When I blew the dust off and flipped through the pages I knew I had struck gold. Each page listed the career path I had wanted from the first grade through the fifth. The first two years read 'Teacher', followed by 'Nurse' and the remaining fifth grade year boasted 'Band Manager'. How I even knew what a band manager was I will never know, but in my current state of affairs I laughed it off and tossed the new found book of memories into a trunk.
During our childhood we are constantly given a structured environment in which to thrive and grow, but our sense of reality is tainted by the beautiful imagination that has yet to be picked at. Thankfully some of us never loose this sense of wonder, but more often then not we are hurtled into life at the speed of light and seem to leave fluffy breadcrumbs of fables along the way. Teaching is a rough job, and I will never blame anyone in my life for teaching me exactly what they knew to be true and secure, but currently I understand that we are the ones who create our lives despite anyone's advice or class. I have also been blessed to know many people who have not left their wonder behind and want to share them with the world.
This is the beginning of Need Less Fuzz, a blog about people and what they choose to do with their lives inside and out. I want to know about you, what you do and why you do it. In return i will try to hand you what i have found in this world. Remember we are all kings and queens of our own universes. Own yours!
